Our Cast of Characters -
How it all began:
The
concept for Cast of Characters originated in March of
1998. My daughter, Rachel - age 3 at the time -
fell off the monkey bars at school and broke her right
arm. To her dismay, she was put in a cast.
Her orthopedic
surgeon gave us some instruction that primarily involved
keeping the cast clean and free of foreign debris.
This meant that Rachel was to avoid most of the
activities that three-year-olds like to participate in!
Rachel is right handed so this independent child was
forced to try to manipulate eating utensils, magic
markers, sand shovels, paint brushes and was cloths with
her left hand. Our situation seemed desperate.
My solution was to
make cast covers!
My first couple of
attempts produced crude designs but I relentlessly
pursued artists and seamstresses to help me with this
venture. After years of trial and error, I found
Manhattan Toy Company to manufacture our products.
I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of the
products that they are producing for us and can't
tell you how much it means to me to see my concept for
cast covers make it to the market.
Thus, the idea was
born for creative cast covers to make the cast
experience for young children more enjoyable, manageable
and fun. Now children can play in the sandbox,
paint at the art easel and even entertain themselves
with our adorable cast of characters.
Sincerely yours,
Jill Solis
